FACEBOOOK RAINBOW
Social interaction and freedom to express yourself
Facebook Rainbow is a perfect example of those companies which would like to take a stand on social issues.
When the Supreme Court of the United States was coming to its deci- sion about the legalization of gay marriages for all of the states, Face- book developed and distributed a little application that allowed users the chance to apply the colours of the rainbow to their profile picture. With this little application, users were offered the opportunity of ex- pressing their opinion about the Supreme Court decision.
In just three days, more than 26 million people around the world had superimposed rainbows over their Facebook profile pictures. And Face- book wasn't the only tech company celebrating the ruling.
At the same time, Google added artwork with the colours of the rainbow emblem associated with LGBT pride on search pages for phrases like "gay marriage" and "same-sex marriage".
