chance to design more efficient spaces based on both quantitative and qualitative evaluation. When it comes to office design, the ability to judge which areas are used and the chance to mine and interpret data can be essential as a way of creating offices that attract employees. Companies understand that to attract and retain the best employees, they need to design spaces that allow them to be happy. With data readily available on how space is used, it is possible to design offices and services that better meet people's needs.
Comfort and effectiveness
No Deloitte employees at The Edge have an assigned desk: they can move freely about the office by verifying on an app which areas are occupied and which have space available. The app also provides information about shared spaces, both internal and external across the site, such as parking.
The app also offers access to the climate control and lighting systems and allow employees to customise temperature and light. The app saves each employee’s personal preferences, for environmental factors such as temperature or light but also about things like the type of coffee they prefer. The system is able to calculate energy consumption of each of these factors making people aware of their decisions and encouraging them to take responsibility for them and possibly adopt more sustainable behaviour.
The Edge is a perfect example of how the intelligent interaction of technology, fit- out and architecture facilitates new and better ways of working. The Edge creates an environment in which people can interact with space and choose where, how and when to work. It embodies the real purpose of smart buildings which is to make offices better place for people, supporting them to be happier and more productive.
